DIY Gaff

4 Attachment(s)
During that week of rain I made a nice little gaff for my kayak. I like to make things that I can rather than buy them. Pretty stoked how it came out. I have repaired gaffs in the past but this is the first, from scratch, one I have made. Even put it to work since........

Funny thing is, the first fish it stuck wasn't mine (you know who you are, I'll let you share your glory).

I also made a nice cover for my kayak I might post later.

looks like it worked. Made in America!

nice

I make my gafs from broken carbon / composite hockey sticks.
Good grip, strong & very light...:sifone:

I just realized I should have put this in the innovations thread.....sorry.

This is a ratan escrima stick. They are super buoyant and heat treated so you can whoop dogs if needed. You know, in self defense.

Nice
But you should really make another
Escrima sticks get lonely all alone
Gotta make a pair
Haha

what kind of epoxy you use and where can I get this epoxy? The gaff looks great by the way!

worked like a charm.

Add 3.6#'s (or fug it...round it up to 5#'s) due to blood loss...wait never mind........:the_finger: Jim

Nice job brian. Looks like it already paid itself off.

I used any 5 minute epoxy to do repairs in the past. I used JB Weld this time because it had a little more in the syringe than Loctite and it had something like 800 psi more strength. I used one for the handle and one for the head with waste on both ends but I would rather waste than have it set in the middle of doing it. Also, you need to rotate it until it sets to get a nice even look so it would just be difficult to do both ends at once.

Jim, come on bro. There is no rounding in blood loss. Everyone knows it is 0.49021 ounces per inch or 0.2808 ounces per pound. Well, maybe there is rounding in your fish stories LOL

I wouldn't necessarily consider this an innovation. Now, a paddle gaff combo........that's an innovation!!!

So, if the fish you stuck with it wasn't yours does that mean that the avatar you have is some other persons kayak?

I don't know......................that resume you were talking about is starting to sound a little fishy:ack2:

ful-rac 01-14-2016 08:42 PM

Hmm...taking a picture of someone else's fish blood on your kayak...

Now that's an innovation! :luxhello:

I'm biting my tongue...and it hurts ! A lot!

Don't you have some bait to eat?? Or maybe, by the looks, you ate it all?

Whoa...whoa...whoa...Brian. Meet my beatch arse friends Jorge (don't call me Jorgie, as in Jorgie Porgie Putnam Pie, kissed a girl and made her cry, etc...) and Tony ("Let me see...why'd you do it like that? Okay, whatever dumbass"). Between bites, we're trying to have some BWE fun. We share as little real info as possible...we smack talk...we bitch slap (sometimes quite hard, lol)...and yes, we're usually eating good food! Some dudes get it. Quite a few don't, lol. I'm thinking you're Old School like us. Be cool, slap back and keep private messaging me your local bite. One of these days, I might just drop something into your in box that's not brown and stanky! Peace brotha, Jim

ful-rac 01-15-2016 06:04 AM

Oh I see, I eat bait because I'm Asian....

That is soooo racist! I'm offended! Well....your ugly! :the_finger:

Well at least I caught the fish on my avatar....;)

momo fish 01-15-2016 07:31 AM

Nothing like catching fresh bait... Great for catching big fish and feeding my Asian in laws... 😊
