I talked to the MOKAI people the other day to see if there is any way to get a hold of a MOKAI that I could inspect to see the practicality of converting it into a fishing machine. They are a factory direct company, which means it is very difficult for them to get their product name out there which in turn means it is hard to get one to "demo" or even see. I asked if they would consider a booth at the Long Beach Fred Hall this year and they said it was possible if they had enough interest, but they thought that their interests should go to Texas.:confused:

Is anyone here even semi-seriously interested in the MOKAI as a fishing platform?

keep an eye on craigslist. i've seen two since summer. last one was a guy in la mesa in sept for $1500 w/trailer.

Throw a baittank in there, rod holders, storage for fishing gear, the necessary cup holder (haha!), and then cut price in half-- I'd buy one!

I think if you are going to fish out of a small boat, you may as well get a tin can or a zodiac instead. Just my thoughts.

That thing is interesting but it doesn't strike me as appropriate for big open water or surf. But who knows, once the MLPA shuts down LJ it might be just the ticket.

That thing would be kewl...if it did 100mph. :D

That is exactly what I was thinking. Even a small tin can would have a lot more room.

I think it would have 2 advantages over the tin can and zodiac:

1. You could launch like a kayak, like from any beach, rather then from a boat ramp like you would have to in a tin can or a zodiac.

2.You could load it on your roof as opposed to have a trailer

I am looking into getting one, just don't know if I want the hassle of motors, gas, and registration

One of the things going against it is there is only 1 testimonial on it in the salt, hawaii.
Even the video doesn't show any salt action
I'd need to see it on a surf launch plowing through some waves

Looks like it would be great in the bays and even harbors but anything with some wave action greater than 2ft it looks like trouble.
Even with a spray skirt
If you look at the design, the air intake and exhaust are sooooo low
1 good wave to the chest or 1 mini rogue wave on the stern look like it would kill the engine

In CA, aren't you required to register (get CF#'s) if it has a motor?

And with a motor, aren't you restricted from launching from just any beach and are required to launch from ramps like vessels with CF#'s? (LJS is the only beach I know of that allows boat launches)

That's funny...even paddle kayaks don't come with a paddle...

The Hobie Mirage drive line comes with paddles too

Probablly since the good ole paddle way is second to the peddle or in this case the engine, the manufacturer wants to make sure should something goes wrong you still have a way to get back. Most people probablly wouldn't purchase a paddle since they have an engine.
