Sewer Times 6/9/16
After being away from the water for over a month due to school and other life matters I finally managed to get out again. The sewer was the destination of choice yesterday with the intention of only targeting bass. I brought all light gear for the most part anywhere from 6lb-17lb throwing plastics and jigs.
Total count: 18 fish consisting of a mix of calicos, sand bass, brown rockfish, and a short cuda. The majority of the bass were short, but I managed to pick up a few legals on some Zman plastics. Most of the fish were hooked up on the sink, but a few bit while retrieving on the bottom. The day was a mix of success and frustration since I managed to crack the insert of a fuji guide on my light baitcasting set-up. Sucks! Does anyone know of an inexpensive place to get the eyelet replaced? http://i661.photobucket.com/albums/u...pswj016vts.jpg Calm, calm, CALM! The water pretty much looked like this the whole time I was out, a REALLY nice change of pace from the usual death winds that the sewer is known for. http://i661.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps6fdpjovx.jpg 16" est. Calico on a tiny Zman swimbait. I forget the name. The fight was FUN! http://i661.photobucket.com/albums/u...pstclwqvkq.jpg http://i661.photobucket.com/albums/u...psxdpwnand.jpg Some tasty critters for dinner. :D http://i661.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps719ra24r.jpg A pretty cool find. A couple of the rockfish had a local shrimp and anchovie in their gut. lots of life in the harbor right now. micro anchovies are all over the place and some kelp is regrowing in some areas. |
good times! thanks for the report :cheers1:

Thanks for the report.
Looks like a fun outing. Love those glassy calm days. I've had rods repaired at Just Fishing by Pete in Redondo. Great work and reasonable prices. Cheers, Steve |
Sav-On Tackle in Santa Fe Springs does that sort of repair. I'm actually planning to take my heavy bass rod in there today to see about having my rod-tip replaced; My insert is also cracked. I have the means of replacing my own guides, but I like that rod and I'd rather it look good when it's done! I'll let you know what they quote me.

Looks like a fun day in great conditions. I've had guides replaced at Sav On Tackle in Santa Fe Springs. I don't remember what I paid but I'm sure it wasn't much and it looked like factory when I picked it up. They do reel repairs there, too. Great shop that has about everything.

Great report, looked like a fun day of fishing for sure, and look at that glassssy water. Thanks for sharing :cheers1:

I have had a few rod tips repaired at Squidco which was only 3 bucks each. Not sure about how much the guides are.
Squidco is also having there annual fathers day sale next Saturday which might be a good excuse to go down there. They always have some good deals, its my favorite time of the year to shop there. |
The Jig Stop in Dana Point also does guide replacements pretty cheap. I think I paid $7 plus the cost of the guide for my Calstar and the job looks factory.

Hijacked Thread
I think your thread has been turned into a marketing page for our local tackle shops.
LMAO::D:D:D |
You could waterski that!

I'm not used to seeing POLA like that. Nice haul. I have to join you next time.
|
Thanks guys! It was one of the best days I've had at the sewer.

Almost forgot to come back to this thread and tell you I was only charged $3 to replace my cracked tip-top guide at Sav-On. The only bad thing is the guide is pretty small, probably a micro, and so I'm gonna have to swap it out. Next time I'll just do it myself, haha! Craftsmanship was fine and the price was plenty fair.
|
Thanks Dave! I'm still going back and forth between ordering a guide and doing it myself or stopping by Sav-on-tackle. Was your replaced tip Fuji?

I hear ya'. I've had old rods replaced with ceramic ones or the generic berkely tips that broke on me shortly after replacing so I'm not sure if I want to take chances.
