11/15AM No rest for the wicked

Picking up the inlaws this afternoon so I figured to make a quick morning run. Launched into the pea soup fog and made some macs, lizards, and dabs. Almost got run down by a lobter boat for the second day in a row, but fortunately he was going sensibly slow and heard my yells. Arne let me know he was hooked up so I headed over to the general area and dropped a mac down on a 3x3 rig (inspired by my striper fishing days back east). 5 minutes later it gets hammered and the fight is on. Big gear this time so its a fairly straightforward ordeal, and 10 minutes later this 18lb unit is bleeding on the deck.

After I secure the fish, Arne is slammed again. 30 minutes later this beautiful specimen is brought up.

We worked with for several minutes before it finally swam back down. Tide slacked and that was it. Mutual photobiyatch duties and landed in surprisingly pumping surf.

Full moon looks to be working its magic. May hit it again tomorrow since I seem to have it dialed in right now and its a fairly precise window when they seem to bite. Better get out there Andy, the jackals are at your heels! :D

This weekend is a fishable one for me, so I'll be out there on Saturday 4 sure.
What was the est wt. on the BSB?

twinfin 11-15-2005 11:37 AM

NICE for both of yous....surfed the shores this morning and saw one of you paddle off into the fog....I think I need to get a GPS for mornings like this.

bottom tail?

great fish as always brad. is it safe to say that the yellows have been feeding on or near the bottom lately?

I'll guessimate 80-100lb on the BSB, but it could be more. Looked just like the one I got in February.

Arne 11-15-2005 12:03 PM

It must have been Brad you saw paddling out since I made the trek over to the pier in the dark and the thickest fog I've ever yakked in. Pretty spooky when you can't see the pier lights or any lights on shore - all you can do is listen for the waves. I was maybe 40 feet away from the pier when I finally saw the lights.

Got YT-slammed on a deep greenie around 7am in about 110 feet, but I have no idea where I was. I just got my reel back from the shop and forgot to adjust the drag (way loose), so I had to use my thumb to increase the drag pressure. Good thing the tail never took off to shallow water or I never would've gotten it up. A very nice big n' chunky tail with blood on the decks. :D

Soon after I thought I had a huge yellow until it started doing the 10 foot up, 10 foot down dance. The BSB brought me out to about 150 feet before finally giving in. My first ever. What an incredible fish. Thanks, Brad, for helping me get her down and for your GPS.

Good luck out there.
Arne

Caught a 2.3 pound turd roller on Saturday, and killed the raffle.

Starting hooping at dusk.

The fog rolled in at 6:00, thick fog. Visibility less then 20 feet.

Caught two legals, five shorts and two moray eels.

Ran into two Bloodydeck guys on the way in.

Made an instrument landing at 8:30 in knee high surf.

Buggin’ again in Thursday, fishing Saturday and Sunday.

Hopefully staying out of 55th place

Nice fishing guys.....launched @ 6:30 and paddled due north (compass) and hit the pier but couldn't make bait...first time in years....when you say "at the pier" do you mean literally the pier or off a ways? Pea soup, no bait, no gps.....no luck.

Hey Dennis, the YT ran just under 26# and a little over 41 inches.

'Cuda-
I usually hit the pier before grey light - so I'm directly under the pier lights. Some guys will use cat food or other "chum" to get 'em feeding.

Hey Ken, I'm just blabbing to add some fuel on fire. As work has gotten me tied up, that's all I can do (at least I got an excuse). It's working - 2 more reports got in. Nice pics!!
