Okay, got out again yesterday... on the water around 9am, off around 5:30pm.

Conditions...

Water was calm, fairly clear, a little more cloudy in the skinny water. Hardly any current until later in the day. Temp was around 62.8.

Bait was okay, but not the usual lively dines I usually get from the receiver.

Fishing...

Not as good as last Sunday, but I can't complain. Got three legal bass and several shorts, one legal trolling a rapala, one on a live sardine and one on a sardine chunk. Many of the shorts came on the cut bait.

Notes...

The kelp seems to be returning.

The half day cattle boat anchored up on a spot I frequent. That spot has never produced enough fish to keep a party boat going. As I drifted by there was no activity, no fish. It eventually went back to the harbor. However, it did the same thing on the afternoon run, same result. The boat just sat there not catching fish for quite awhile. Just confirms my commitment to fish from a kayak.

Hi Dave,

I got out earlier, launching around 7. The bait I got at the receiver was lively but large 5-8" sardines. I hooked up to a barely legal calico on a rapala on the way out that I released and then spent the rest of the day catching mackerel and short bass.

See you out there some time!

I went a couple weeks ago and the boat launch was closed. Know anything about that?

So the next best thing.... is to park at the doheny surf parking lot. It's metered but they accept credit cards. $1 per hour. I wheel my kayak down the sand (across that crappy water). For a quick session $5 is less than $10, and still pretty close to the receiver.

Nice haul of bass. Thanks for the report.

No, but they did install an electronic ticket machine, no more having to have the exact $10, just use a card. Perhaps they had it closed for that change over.

Yeah, that day I didn't bring my dry suit and I usually go all day.

Good to know, thanks
