Biggest keeper ever, and on my yak!
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...89c8b9c14c.jpg
After catching a keeper ling and sand bass, I hooked this sevengill shark. He tangled my line and snagged my Sabiki rig with all of his thrashing about. Took about 30 minutes after bleeding to make sure I didn’t get bit before I hauled him aboard. 5 feet 3 inches and 35 pounds! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f596ca7f3c.jpg He must be 21 because I found a can of Budweiser in his stomach! Fishing outside of mission bay. Came in earlier than planned so I fought the tide coming thru the bay. Wonderful day on the water! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Wow good job. What does a seven gill taste like?

I haven’t tried it yet but I read that it’s considered one of the best eating sharks. I’ll find out soon. It might taste like beer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

theres no way in hell thats true |
Why?

I read it on the internet....it must be true;-) But, is there a reason you think it might not be? I caught and ate a dogfish shark couple of months ago and it was good but the meat was kinda soft before cooking. This sevengill is nice firm meat. |

We have an abundance of them locally and have you ever seen them at the fish market? They piss through their skin so unless you're a seasoned shark eater, there are a lot of steps you'll have to go through to make it palatable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Try a beer.....
Bladder oops... I mean beer batter.....must be part tigershark.....:D

I'd probably just cut the fins off for soup and throw the rest away.
j/k |
I like the way you render your catch.
BTW, I have some things to give you next time we meet. |

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...0dc2492506.jpg Finished smoking the sevengill. Tastes great! I was going to see how it turned out before deciding whether to keep sharks in the future. This will be great appetizers with crackers cream cheese and green onions for the holidays! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
What to do when Rockfishing is closed!
I guess I’ll be shark hunting during the January and February months.

Those steaks look great too.
Hats off to you for making it work! |

Nice that you took good care of your catch and used it all. That being said, I hope we don't see a trend in targeting sharks. They're under a lot of pressure generally and I like having them around.

I don’t plan on targeting sharks. They’re pretty hard to skin, and take care of property, and they tangle lines like nothing else. I was targeting halibut when I got the sevengill. By the time I got him to the yak he was really tangled in my main line and Sabiki. That being said, I might occasionally keep one to smoke. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
