bft within reach?
I haven't been on a yak in a few years, but have you guys heard of the local bft around? from the oil rigs down to Carlsbad. not sure if its within reach for yakkers or if yakkers want to make the long trek only to find a zoo of boats. would be cool if a yak landed one.

I'd go for broke on a purdy day out of DP............just need an opening in my calendar.
|
i got a fleet of buddies heading out tomorrow. some launching mission bay, dana, davies (Alamitos), south shore (queen mary) and Cabrillo. if I get any intel on fish within 5 miles, i'll let you guys know. we'll personally be out of queen mary chasing the bft around the 150 rigs in my parker which is a bit far for a yak.

Think twice about doing anything from the Dana Pt. ramp. Two thirds of day use parking is gone, probably for good.

HOLY CRAP!

Z and I had two spots of big BFT pop up near us last week. While Cod fishing in Dana Point. Within two miles of land. In 60.5 degree water. Near the end of December.
We are living in the upside down. |

Everyone play nice and try and hook one. Maybe the key is they bite best 1st week of January. |

hoping for a weather window later in the week!..........if word they are sticking around. |
We went and looked on Saturday out of Dana....how could you not?
Found one big spot of big fish up and foaming Nat Geo style right off the west corner of the Laguna MPA. Was able to get one cast just outside the foam before they sunk out. Lots of bird/bait life in the zone, which was anywhere from 2-5 miles offshore. Plenty of bird tornadoes that formed up on fish spots in the general area, but would disperse by the time we got close to them. Its very reasonable that a yakker would score by making a couple Macs and taking them for a paddle. You'd have to be in the right place & right time to find school of them up and foaming, but that 2-5 mile zone would be a good place to start. Schools were up and down very fast, but spread out over a pretty big area, so I think there is a lot of fish out there. Hope they stick around... Inshore tuna hunting in January. Huh. |
I dont have a lot of experience to bounce this off of, but it really does feel bananas out there right now....

yesterday:D........gotta go!:reeling:
