La Jolla 8/1 - Conditions
Larger waves today and the water temperature dropped a few degrees compared to last week. Launch was wet and cold, should have used waders today. Got a few waves to the chest because I didn't time my launch correctly. Made bait and flylined for a few hours. Conditions were really nice until 8:30am, wind picked up and I packed up and peddled in. Landing was scary but I timed it perfectly.

I didn't even make bait today. I was fishing up north and reading a solid 59-60 water temp the whole time. Pretty chilly.
I second the rough launch conditions. Waves were heavier than expected, and there were some standout sets that were significantly larger than buoy data. I ended up jumping out into chest deep water to prevent capsizing on the way in. Surf had some energy to be breaking at the boat launch in water that was overhead depth. |
Yup
Launched out of MB at 05:00 and at 8:30 the fog and wind rolled up from the south. The wind was enough to send chop over the gunwhales so I gave it up. Water temp 60. Made bait 1 greenback, two spanish and a few whatever the ones with a ton of little scales. Only caught one rockfish, but that's enough for me and my wife for dinner.
