Buying used question
Why would anyone buy a used ( dozen times ) 2020 Hobie PA fully loaded $6600 when you can get everything brand new yourself for $7000? When you buy brand new, you may spend less because you may not need all the things in the used package. You would also get exactly what you wanted.
I'm just asking because I think $400 saved is not enough for a purchase of this type. That's all. I could be wrong but I'm trying to help my friend buy a kayak and I really don't know which way he should go. |
Supply and Demand.
Low supply, High demand. That’s my only guess. |

Or what if people don't go back to work, at some point, there are going to be some fire-sale bargains if this COVID situation does not change.

Looking at it with optimism... hopefully the industry sees residuals from this year's sales. Sports and entertainment drama have turned off a lot of people and they have seeked other ways to "get away from it all". Have met a lot more first timers than usual. Money saved on season tickets and netflix subscriptions to pour into tackle and GoPros. But maybe I could be wrong and I'll finally afford to join the darkside  .

If your friend NEEDS to get on the water ASAP(which I totally get), maybe recommend buying a cheaper used setup, knowing that within a year or so he'll be upgrading. He can spread out his purchases of add-ons and other things to swap over when he jumps into a new rig. That'll will soften the blow to the wallet a bit when he doesn't have to buy all the additional stuff like fish finder, rod holders, and other tchotchkes all at once. Just a suggestion! The other option: get what he really wants up front! "Buy once, cry once!" Getting new from a place like OEX comes with other benefits too. I don't want to speak for them, but when I got my kayak from them, they gave really good discounts on future purchases of extras like PFD, attachments, livewell, etc. That plus their service is enough for me to lean towards new, especially given the relatively slim price differences.
