I've always wondered if a bow plane/flare like that would prevent pearling when riding waves. The anhedral on the bow plane might be counterproductive. I could see the tip digging in and causing a rapid, unwanted steering action.

Saw one on top of a car at Bahia Point yesterday.. this answers the traditional WTF questions I had :)
