Squid Friday Morning?
First off, a big congratulations to all of you fortunate to get on the recent bite and catch some quality yellowtail, especially those catching their first. With the size of these fish, it looks like some might have caught their first, and maybe the largest they will ever catch.
We have a feeling our weekend trip will be a day late, dollar short kind of deal. Without asking for details about the where's and what's, since we usually find our own fish, there is one thing that would be nice to know from those that fished Friday AM (2/27/9), which were many according to the webcam. Were the squid still around and catchable? We'll appeciate the feedback. Thanks. |
Aaron, they weren't around. but you could buy some from the squid boats.
|
Thanks, erinoo. What cost for what quantity?
I do know the stuff's like gold at times. |
Stop by Ranch 99 market on Clairmont Mesa Blvd. You can get it by the pound and it is usually very fresh.
|
Thanks Dorf. We were looking to get the live stuff if possible, but it is good to have options.
I'm guessing that what erinoo said the squid boats are offering is live. Is this true? |

 is right!
I could see them charging that much for a good scoop that they sell to a private boater with a bait tank. But, I was hoping they'd size it down a little and sell a kayaker 3 dozen or so, for say $20. |
I saw and heard guys buying squid for $20 today from one of the squid boats.
|
For the kayaks, they were doing $10 for more squid than a single guy would need all day. I passed a bunch out and still released a few at the end of my morning. Thanks to the Kamryn Kate!

|
I got three!
(sand bass, calico, starry rockfish) |
Thanks everyone, for the info.
