Kayaking outfit recommendation
 

Hi,

I am looking to get into the sport, and was wondering what types of clothing do kayakers normally wear during the warm and cool seasons?

During cold weather do you wear waders/dry top or is it necessary to wear dry pants/dry top? Do you also get separate booties?

During warm weather is it enough to just wear a rash guard and swim trunks.

What are your recommendations?

Welcome, glad to hear your going to be part of the kayak community! Hope you'll try out fishing,its fun especially when the bite is wide open,(I'll let ya know when that happens!). Have you ever been to a beach launch area where kayakers are around? Check out the beach sometime and observe tha attire of anyone thats going on or near the water. If all else fails ask my mother!!:cheers1:

I sport the paddle pants, jacket, and some booties. Depending on how cold you can layer up underneath. Some people wear waders and like them. As for summer, board shorts, hat, shades, sunscreen and cold beer works for me!:cheers1:

I agree! don't forget the cold beer

Search function works good for these types of questions, but Breathable Waders with Paddle jacket year round. Just layer underneath for time of the year. Summer I wear waders with board shorts, and peel them off it too hot, but I like the protection from the sun with breathable waders. OEX has some cool paddle jackets for cheap, check them out.

When you launch in the surf, you will almost always get wet... really wet. During the summer this is not a big deal as you will dry off and warm up as you paddle or peddle.

This time of year when you get wet, you will stay wet for hours. Most of us wear waders, (breathable or wetsuit), and a water resistant splash jacket. As things warm up, it is easy to shed the jacket and any layers that you might have on. Removing waders, especially the wetsuit kind several miles off shore can be problematic.

Another thing to keep in mind is that things like sunglasses, hats and similar objects that get splashed during the launch will be a problem all day long. Some of us have learned to stow all of that stuff until we are outside the surf line.
