I got to the launch at 0430 to a light east breeze, and low tide. Met up with Ryan, and headed to the pier. We picked up some greenies and micro spanish. We paddled to the kelp where Romel was, but not much going on out there. I pinned on a spanish, and started throwing the iron. Saw a couple of good marks on the ff. Then one big one in 110ft of water... My clicker starts singing, but when I grab the rod... Nothing there. My bait was untouched. I think it was a whale of something that ran into my line... Since there were many along the kelp line. Who knows... Landed at 1030 to high tide and some surf.
Hopefully it picks up soon..
Good luck,
Dennis

Thanks dennis, I hope to be back out there manana. 8 days and nobody gettin YT has me thinking of trying deeper. 7X to keep the 3 inch starries and other rockfish off. I used to get YT around the islands in 200-220 feet in the Winter. Hopefully I'll have meter tomorrow. :D

just curious..do depth restrictions go for yakers too...? I would think so..

Iceman 01-31-2006 06:19 PM

Ryan, I know the yaks have to abide by the same rules for sure. I wondered as I posted this, if it was against regulations. What I am unclear of is can you target other species when there are depth restrictions. Obviously you can troll over water as deep as you want with downriggers for T sharks and WSB. Will have to try and find an answer.

My understanding is that one cannot fish restricted depths while in possession of the restricted fish, but if no rockfish or other restricted fish are on board then you can fish for whatever you want. Same with the multi hook rule. Technical, once a rockfish is on board you can't use a sabiki with more than two hooks. I could be wrong though.
