Spanish macs are definitely good eats. They're a jack not a true mac, so I'm sure that has something to do with it.

Delicioso!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was wondering this exact thing. Spanish Mac at sushi bars is one of my favorite.... Can I catch them and just take them home for sashimi?

What are you doing? ... making bait and heading home. :)

I have it from a genuine japanese gourmand that spanish macks are the same as mexican scad. They are supposed to be good table fare.

Ok. Cat's out of the bait tank.

Just to clairfy, specifically for my Japanese wife who is dying to try one...

Could anyone post up the pics of what is considered the 'Spanish' mack?

I've pulled so many different kinds of little fish; macks, dines and every other kind of little fish imagineable on my sabiki, it's comical.
I assume the Spanish is the big eye'd one with the brown colored back?

The greenback is easy to ID, and Gino is right they are nasty.

Our greenback is close looking to what the Japanese call a 'Saba' wich I think is more like Norweigan mackrel.

Thanks all,

Willy

ooops that was the doctored one I sent to a friend as a joke
the real anglers name was ron fuji and he caught it at alijos rocks but sadly he died of a heart attack while on the boat two days later and never saw the fish get weighed in.I had the privledge of giving him his last chuckle a few minutes before he collapsed and died.
Foe all of us ...when you get the chance to go fishing go...you never know when your last day fishing will be.

THATS THE WAY TO GO OUT!
:cheers1:

Be cautious of eating any mackeral caught here in southern california They can have worms, Someone told me that what you eat in a sushi bar is (typically) comercially caught in cold waters, where fish dont have tendancey to have worms.

Why would you want to eat those spanyards when you could just turn it into a #88 YT like that guy did?

Why not just give me your yak and you can go join all the other bait eating fishermen on our local piers?:biggrinjester:

How about posting some before and after pics of your catch (or invite me over for dinner)?:p
