Lucy Speaks!
Sat. 3/20:
With the forecast showing an almost "perfect" winter weather day, Steveooo called to bribe me into getting my new yak out of dry dock and onto the water for it's maiden voyage. With the recent photos/reports of some nice:wsb: we were optimistic of our chances. Bait was tough in the dark but once the sun peaked out just past gray light, it was plentiful. While on the move, I thought why not troll something on the way and almost immediately the spool started singing: http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...r/P3200019.jpg Nice to pull on something of quality.....Been a while: http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...r/P3200032.jpg After a few minutes of drag pulling and thanks to Steve's quick eye and quick trigger finger on the camera.... http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...r/P3200022.jpg A decent size T shows his face. Not the "right kind" but still a blast on a great day out there. Coming up to color... http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...r/P3200055.jpg Since I have family and friends in town visiting from Taiwan who would really enjoy the fresh eats and I felt comfortable with the size (not too small, not too big) for the yak, the decision was made. Plus, I probably would have got the Chinese water torture from the family if I brought home only pics and a story! http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...r/P3200065.jpg Thanks Steve for the assist in subduing the fish with our make shift tail rope and a dull Bowie knife :cheers1: http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...r/P3200077.jpg Very interesting trying to pedal a Hobie while balancing a T-Shark in your lap. That effort did not last long as I decided pulling the drive for some added room and paddling it in would be much more efficient. Good thing the Adventure is also a good paddler..."King of the world" pose: http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...r/P3200088.jpg Happy :paddleersmilie:on a Hobie... http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...r/P3200091.jpg Launch and landings were uneventful today with ankle slapper heights. Back on the beach early... http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...r/P3200093.jpg You may notice a "helmet" cam on in some of the pics. The footage came out well but PC's have the most outdated, crappy video editing software imaginable. Maybe we will get lucky and one of Steve's magical vids will appear someday as I couldn't get my videographer skills going today. Great day on the water... and stoked to break in the new yak! -Steve |
did you find a hook in the corner of its mouth? Lost one on Thurs :)
|
Beautiful photos. Maybe it's time to change the avatar.

Dude, it looks like you're wearing a go pro camera? if so, Im looking forward to the video!!!
nice chark |
Way to go Steve. It's funny I fished with Rob and Ryan yesterday and Rob brought you up and we said I wnder when he's (you) going to get his new yak wet.
|
Nice! Great way to christen the new yak!
|
what were you trolling?
|
Those pictures could go in a Hobie ad. Awesome quality! Question about your boat: why'd you go with the Adventure instead of the Revo like everyone else does? Are you happy with it? One guy told me its hard to get into the front hatch on an adventure on the water.
Congratulations on the Thresher. I'm sure the extended family will be awed! |
Way to go Steve! Nice to see the yak in action. Great photos.

I have been on both and being that I am 6'-5", the Adventure gives me a bit more room in the cockpit. I had a tendency to bottom out the pedals on the Revo. Yes, it is a bit more difficult to get to the front hatch but it can be done pretty easily once you get used to it. |
Congrats on your maiden voyage steve and what a great way to christening your new boat Thank you for sharing. Something tells me your ready for more.
|
Nice photos. Magazine quality. good work on the fish.
|
Hey! congratulations. I here the T-Sharks are good eating.
Do you have the Mirage drive and how did you tuck the little critter in the boat? Thanks for the info! |
Saw you out there
Nice Catch. You don't have to make excuses to any of us about keeping a threshere once a year. Sounds like the timing was right to keep one. I saw you land it and pose for a good 30 minutes with it, but never saw you bleed it. If you didn't they taste a lot better bled (they urinate in their blood, so bleeding sweetens the meat.
About 45 minutes after you caught yours, C-Level's Cousin, Randy hooks while fishing solo on their boat. Mid fight, the thresher goes airborn and jumps into the bow. So much for catch and release... Nice catch. |
That is funny, Randy getting one in his lap! :D
Nice catch, congrats!!! I'm with Mr. JH - nothing wrong with keeping a T here and there. That one was a perfect kayak handling size. It seems to me many more of them that get caught around LJ end up being released, that's very cool too. |
