I have used the H-Bird. It works fine, giving useful if unspectacular readings. Units in this price range are really only good for showing the depth, identifying large structure and sometimes finding bait. My H-birds, (including the Matrix 12 I now use), often confuse kelp with fish so using this class fish finder to actually find fish can be problematic.

I have the Cuda 300 and a Lowrance M68-C. Both are fine units. I would like try Hummingbirds HD color FF/GPS. With that said, even with a HD unit, I still don't think I will find the fahqing fish in LJ!

its not the cost of the unit but rather knowing how to read it.. ;) Lower end product just as effective as an higher end unit ..for kayak fishing.
