Surf looks calmer today 6/28

Chilly and overcast this am in LJ with just a few yaks on the water. It sounds like the wild action may be over for now. June started out a bit slow but I did get into the Canyon Party with a 39 lb. WSB on an iron on 6/18. Last week my son came into the office with me on Friday and we headed out to sea after the close of the market. Getting out thru the surf was no problem but coming in as the swell picked-up was quite another affair. I had to back paddle over a few waves before I was lucky enough to find a bit of a lull to get in without rolling. Lucas had tears of fear in his eyes but afterward he told my wife that he was not afraid at all. We high fived after both landings. The Yellowtail weighed only 21 pounds, 36" but it fought like a 30 pounder after it hit a trolled Mackerel so the old techniques are still in style.

very cool :cheers1:

I was wondering how PA handles any surf on entry, it's got to be tough with how wide that kayak is

PA Through not over the surf

The PA plows thru the surf so the front mount for the ff is not advised as lots of waves come over the bow during the outward bound as well. I mounted a ball on the right side flat railing which allows for easier access for adjustments. Going out is no problem if you are comfortable taking a few to the chest, don't forget a strap for your galsses. Coming in I really take my time and do everything possible not to catch a wave. I pull the peddles and lash them in. Pull out my paddle and do as much back paddling as forward to make sure I stay perpendicular to shore. So far so good. Surf is up a bit today so my afternoon voyage should be interesting.

Tight lines, Kurt
