never fisht El Cap, but I have been to Refugio a couple times
which is about three or four miles north of El Cap... between El Cap and Refugio are many kelp beds... check out google earth.... small plastics and or creature baits have given me some fun days... lost of calicos, rockfish, even some short WSB.... there are halibut to be had... bring your light surf gear for fishing from the sand also.... lots of nice surf perch... the 3" big hammers nail the bigger models if they are around... good luck... let us know how you do |
Thanks for the tips! Will post some pics when I get back. Heading up:cheers1: Monday back Friday.

I have fished there a few times the Kelp to the north is awsome....it's all awsome , Check for structure for the Cabazons, there good. I was in Carpinteria over 2 weeks ago bait was plentiful lots of nice Sardines, but the red tide was nasty.
The red tide should be gone by now, water temp a little cool still. Spoke with Game Warden up there ,he did tell me the water has been cool and the bite has been off a bit. It should pick up though. Enjoy the no crowds in the water, thats the nice part.. |
