HH 08-14-10 Saturday
Getting a late start, I headed out to give Huntington Harbour a shot. The 12:30pm high tide helped
out by providing some nice water movement. There were plenty of clouds of small baitfish moving throughout the harbor and the spotties seem to be getting healthy off this food source as they were strong and full of fighting energy. http://huntingtonharbour.org/images/SBB-08-14-10a.JPG http://huntingtonharbour.org/images/SBB-08-14-10b.JPG http://huntingtonharbour.org/images/SBB-08-14-10c.JPG Since watching the 'Game On' Kayak Fishing Video, I have always kept a pair of bolt cutters in a dry bag tied inside the middle hatch. Today I decided to try it out to make sure it works in case I really need it some day. --Well, okay, so I didn't purposely hook myself to test it, but I don't want to let on why I was casting an iron in Huntington Harbour, either. Anyway, for the bolt cutters, they worked perfectly, easily cutting the treble so I didn't have to paddle with an iron hanging from my hand. It is easy to see how important this would be when out in open ocean. http://huntingtonharbour.org/images/bolt_cutters.JPG |
OUCH! Looks like that hurt!

I always carry that same pair of compound bolt cutters ever since I saw this poor guy hook himself.
It will cut through the toughest hooks with ease. An average set of dykes won't. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b8...D720/ry%3D480/ |

bolt cutters....really???
just pull it out with a pair of pliers and keep fishin!...no need to make a big deal out of it and ruin a good iron. Did you go to the ER??? how did they remove it? Irons in the bay? |
From the look of the skin on the edge of your finger, do what sheetmetal guys do shove it thru, followed by shots and brews, yes those cutters do work bitchen, at least your hook was rust free......
