almost sank today
took out the new zodiac after i patched it up a bit. only got it for $140. west marine makes crappy hypalon glue. i am never gonna get their brand of glue again. we made it out to the yellow markers and then realized out patches were coming off. we were leaking in water and leaking out air. i had the air pump pumping up the tubes while i was heading back in. disaster day. oh and my phone got wet. i need a new phone now. |
You get what you pay for :)

When doing a repair job, always take the safe route and do a trial run (or two or three) to ensure the seal is solid.
Imagine if you were even further offshore and when the leaks happened or if the peeling patches resulted in a bigger tear. :eek: Glad you guys made it back safely. Hopefully the next fix will be permanent. But still, play it safe for a trip or two. |
haha that was our trial run.i wanted to go to a lake buttt noooooo my friend wanted some yellowtail

I warned you about cheap deals on zodiacs
Take it to Downwind marine and ask if its worth saving. Downwind is a sailing cruisers chandlery on Scott Street in Point loma
Cruisers are always trying to save money when they sail. Downwind will have the right stuff and may have a grungy cruiser on their phone list who can patch it up proper for cheap. good luck chris |
sometimes it is the application and not the product, glad you came out of it alive.

First and foremost I'm very glad to hear you are okay and very glad that the trip didn't go as bad as it most certainly could have.
That being said, with all resins and glues etc. it Is extremely important to follow all the directions properly, I've worked alot with both and anytime ya skip one part can make the bond fail. Definitely not trying to say you didn't do it right, just sometimes similar glues have very different directions in prepping. More posting this as a friendly reminder to everyone includng myself! Once again glad your okay and I'm pretty sure westmarine will gladly refund you the money and help you out with any questions you may have (I've been rigging my boat and have spent far too much time there as of late) good luck and I hope you get out fishing on the zodiac soon!! Matt |
@467echo nope that wasnt us.
@hypoxic i think we are just gonnna take it to the dinghy doctor and have them have a go at it and to everyone else thanks for your concern but i mean even if the boat did sink i didnt feel any danger for my life. i think the tower would notice a 16 foot bright orange boat sinking haha |

I was helping recover their gear and took off before they did....Did they ever make it out? |
glad to hear you made it back safe.
Kayak or a boat, dingy or whatever else you're floating on to get to them, make sure you keep safety first. Always try to plan for "what if" situations, and have gear on hand to deploy to help deal with it. Must read for the new blood: http://www.kayakfishingsupplies.com/...fishing-safety |
