11/27 Deep Rocks
Got a limit of rockfish today when the current cooperated, around
165'-180' deep on both plastics and bait. Kinda fun. Lots of life with some big marks - heard splashes I think there were threshers slapping around ... http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...imit165009.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...imit165001.jpg |
Fish look tasty, and you look like a Abercrombe model  Best looking yak fisherman this side of the Mississippi! :sifone:
I've always wanted to try the BR launch. 7 ft from the north @ 7 Seconds coming up. Maybe I'll wait til a better window n:cool: |
Good eats for sure.......Nice going!!

Congrats. :cheers1:

Good post! I always get nervous fishing for those reds. I always forget when their in season or not.
I like that Billy Idol thing you got going on... looks good :cheers1: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...lyIdolFist.jpg nice reds WTG!!! |
You're the man when it comes to rock-codding La Jolla. Awesome results again.
|
Nice, I love catching those. Keep in mind all to check your DFG regulations. Lingcod are off limits after November 30 and all other Rock fish are off limits after December 31 in American waters. If you go into Mexican water you're O.K. for all these. I haven't rockfished all this year, I'm bummed, I really like making Fish and Chips with those.
|
That's awsome! I love rockfish!:you_rock:
|
Dude that's awesome!!

I think I can speak for both Larry and myself. We really get tired of replies to our fishing posts full of comments regarding our impeccable grooming, fashion sense and 007 good looks. :biggrinjester:
Nice cod! :sifone: |

Gee thanks Steveooo, I think! :)
Nice Andy! LOL! I rec'vd a few PMs -- and I'd recommend Googling "blackcloud9 rockfish" to see past posts covering rockfish topics, or "larry laumann rockfish" to see more. The Big Rock launch is near the end of Winamar Avenue in La Jolla, and I launch there because I live a block away. |
Guess I'm stuck in helpful mode. Here is a little video from Saturday,
showing my launch and one of my favorite rockfish spots, 2.4 miles from the launch: http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y117/blackcloud9/Fishing/Fishing%20Videos/?action=view¤t=RockfishLimitTripB11292010.mp 4 P.S. I will be doing my 5th year of Hobie kayak fishing seminars this year at both the Fastlane Kayak shop and at the Fred Hall Show (Del Mar). As always feel free to participate by asking questions of me at the shows, I am never afraid to be helpful. I always have my kayak there along with all of my equipment, lures, and best ideas to share with you. Thanks to all of you who have supported my seminars by showing up to these events. For those who may be newer to the forums.... More videos: http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...hing%20Videos/ And photos: http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...loud9/Fishing/ |

http://www.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&l...02095&t=h&z=19 I see Winamar, but no access to the beach. Also looks like you need to pay close attention to the tides. |
Look a little closer.... It's there.... Shorebreak can be a little tough occasionally and I've come back to 3' waves crashing onto the beach after launching through ankle slappers. Sometimes bigger...
|
: ) LOL. You are in the right spot.
There is 4' wide cement walkway between houses just north of the end of Winamar. See just north of the smaller pool house in this picture - can't see them but there are 3 wooden stairs and then a drop of between 1 and 10 feet to the sand. The sand moves in and out all year. Right now there is plenty of sand, the drop is only maybe 4 feet vertical ... http://www.californiacoastline.org/c...gs=0&year=2002 |
Kayaking conditions look to be super ideal for this whole week, and, thru
the weekend too. I'm trout fishing on Saturday, but perhaps Sunday I will launch early at Big Rock, and those interested and on time (6 am) with kayaks can caravan out to go catch rockfish. Anyone interested send me a PM. P.S. I recommend pedal drives, its a long way out and I tend to move pretty fast. |
The taco machine!
I'd be careful, Larry---there might be a line of anglers waiting on the beach come Sunday :D.
Just curious, have you bothered tanking up with live-squid lately and hitting those same stones? Much like your soft plastic, not setting the hook technique (to target the larger rockfish)---I would think using the whole, live squid would target the keepers rather than 6" nibblers, too. Not to mention, I hear other, larger species like to eat live-squid as well :biggrinjester:. |
You are right Josh - but I enjoy the company - I've never seen another
kayaker out there. Its lonely :p, and its a big area to fish. Couldn't find my rockfish article online which you are referring to, but yes fishing whole squid is the ticket or better yet a whole squid on a big plastic and swing only when you feel the right !THUMP! <THUMP>. I'm confident that the new moon will have the squirts spawning, and I'm actually calling for a full tanker blitz on the 5th or 6th or 7th at the cyn. We'll see. :) |
