It's basically 8 miles from Mission Bay entrance to La jolla and 8.5-9.0 to the SD Bay entrance. Add to that the 2 miles from Dana Landing to the Mission Bay entrance.

The spot on Shelter Island next to the launch ramp has parking right there with just a sidewalk between parking and the beach. The only hindrance is a short steep section.

SD Bay Launch Sites.

The beach just south of this marker is where most launch on Shelter Island. No real parking issues here.

Some dude on reddit was talking about how it's ok to take bait in the MSR off of the launch area. He was thinking the launch area was part of the SD/Scrips Coastal SMCA....
