DP 9/19
Made it to the headlands around 7:30am.
Plenty of sea & bird life. I Noticed a commotion of birds on the inside kelp, middle strands area.
Pulled up to see the water clouded with bait fish. Not anchovies or sardines, these where skinnier, smaller and brown. I noticed they we being chased from below and above.
1st tried a sabiki to catch a few of them bait fish. no luck.
Next through a metal spoon and hooked a nice 14 inch green mack. What a fun fish to catch on a smaller rod. Did this a few times and caught a couple more. The spoon stopped working so I tied on a hook, used some cut squid and kept catching macks trying to find a smaller sized model.
I finally hooked an 8-10 green mack, pinned that on to a three way and dropped it down.
few minutes later, a little bendo, reel it in and it was a baby WSB about 18 inches. Simple lip hook and release and off it went.
I did not get a water temp, it was glassy and calm. Not another yakker to be seen at the headlands during my shift. In all, 1 calico, several macks, and a small WSB.
Finished up around 12n, just as the wind kicked up.
Good luck to anyone heading out this weekend. Should be a fund time.
