Velcro no good, you need to have the ducer in the water, or if shooting through the hull must have some goop or electrical putty. Check out the video below. It's all you need to install a thru Hull fish finder. The putty keeps the ducer in place, and the readers are excellent. The only other better install is having it in the water.

Really flatten it out so that there is about a 1/4 of an inch of putty to the sides, front, and back of the transducer. In the video below below you will see a sponge ring and some water in the sponge, you don't need that. Just smoosh out the putty as flat as you can, and you want it about 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. This will hold your transducer in place, and you'll get excellent readings.
