Just to be clear, did the line snap on the cast? I can't say I've ever had my line break at the braid.
I always tend to make the weakest link my topshot/leader
I'm not too sure about what to do *after* something like that happens, but as far as preventative measures go, my understanding is braid buries itself if you don't load the spool *super* tight.
