Saba, the rod is a Daiwa Triforce or Crossfire. They are 3 feet in length and are fairly stiff, unlike other rods that size. They used to be carried at Turner's for roughly $25 but these days they are not real easy to find due to Daiwa not making them anymore. Bummer. The reel is also not common, it's a ProFishency Tiny Mighty, smaller then a 100 sized baitcaster. Works well for the bays and harbors though. Mine is spooled with 20# braid. I like them.
Mitchell, bait at Mission Bay, San Diego Bay and Dana Point is $25 for a kayak scoop, Oceanside is now $20, was $15. It's enough to last the day, usually. The size can vary depending on what they bring in, I don't get any if they are serving 7-9" sardines though. As for the halibut, the last couple of years I've seen a big improvement in the halibut population, and not only in Mission Bay, but also San Diego Bay, Dana Point and even Newport Harbor. I think it has something to do with the Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute and DFW efforts to raise and release them. Several years ago I participated in catching some of their brood stock.
