The most important paragraph in that piece is this one.

"This new research shows that California is on the right track with ocean policy. It adds to a large body of scientific evidence that proves that marine reserves, when designed using sound science, can benefit both fish and fishermen."

If the recommendations submitted by the BRTF were based on "sound science" I would not have a problem with all of this. Unfortunately, at least in my view, "sound science" took a back seat to special interest agendas and political gamesmanship.
