I agree with oneyedeer one both points. First about bumpin the spectra up to at least a 20# or 30# braid. Especially if your gonna be lake bassin around any type of structure or felled trees. You'll appreciate the extra 15# of pull when a 10 dollar lure is stuck in a sunken christmas tree. Secondly, I own a shamano clarius spinning rod. Great great rod and super fast. as far as baitcasting rods I would suggest a fenwick venture. They fall way under your 100 dollar range and they are great rods. I have my 7" meium-heavy paired with a shimano calcutta 250 spooled with 50# powerpro. I hooked a thresher on this setup and my braided line snapped, not the rod. I was pretty impressed. I think this rod went for about 45 bucks? I also have a 6'6" version that is medium action and super fast that is great for bass and hali in the harbor. Hope this helps
