You might be ok with no strap until you get to the sand. At that point, the wheels will dig in and sink some. Even if you have the fat wheeleez, they will sink a little in the sand, and you'll pull the yak off the wheels. I had 2 straps, but I usually only end up using 1 strap. With the ratchet, it's tight enough.
The Moken does come with the Wheel in a Keel however it was very tippy and not well balanced. It pulled through the sand going downhill fine, but at the end of the day pulling it up through the sand loaded up was difficult. Having ruptured my bicep tendon a few years ago I have learned it's better to be safe than having to go have surgery. The wheel works great for loading onto the vehicle, moving around the house, and on harder surfaces but deep sand not as great. I still have more testing to do, but I like the cart that I have for moving through sand.
