Saturday O'side Report

Planned to pick up some chovies to drift near the mouth for some 'butts. Only brought 2 light rigs with me, one Carolina and one Drop Shot. Got on the water by 7 and headed to the bait barge. Water was 63ish and calm, air was 50ish.

Got to the bait barge and NO CHOVIES. Arg! Bait consisted of some horse 'dines and a few mac's. Bait would be great if fishing offshore, but that wasn't the plan. I bought a scoop anyway and had to rerig my rods to handle the larger bait.

I headed over to the seawall and was blown away by the surf outside the harbor - some really nice hollow lefts rolling through. I found the smallest 'dine, about 5" - 6" and sent it down using a DS and bam, picked up immediately by a spottie. That would be the only fish caught (& released) today. A few of the 'dines and mac's got raked, but I couldn't close the deal...maybe a stinger would have helped? Not sure...was just disappointed w/big bait.

Time on the water and a tugging line was a fun Saturday morning.

Cheers!
