Dana Point 3/09/13

Got to the ramp at 530 with matar and echo1er BS for about a half hour waiting and hoping the wind would die down. It didn't so we launch with intentions of heading south. Picked up perfect sardines from the bait barge and headed out of the harbor. Between the wind and huge swell we really didn't make it out that far. So we decided to head back in and fish the harbor. Water was 58 and the wind in the harbor died down around 8-830. Never went back out of the harbor since the swell never calmed down. Finished the day with 2 legal Halibuts, 28 in /9 lbs and 31 in /13 lbs.

Cool. I came back from SD for work and stopped at Doheny State Beach. It was windy and choppy. But this could be an easy launch. $1 per hour to park, short distance to the water. I may have to consider it in the near future.

The benefit of launching closer to the harbor is getting bait from the receiver.

Is it hard to make bait in the area?

I just pay the 10 bucks and launch from the boat ramp you have easy parking and its right next to the bait barge and they have an area to wash down everything after your done, just makes thing more simple and if im out there for 5 hours anyway its only another couple bucks to use the ramp rather than parking in the other lot.

Damn!!! Was out at DP today also, fished the pipe from 0730-1300 for a few bass. The swells were super nasty and the bite was pretty slow...looks like you guys did just fine though, congrats.

Day started off nasty and ended up nice. Waves were breaking against the wall with the spray coming over. There was some kind of Sup event going on and at one point there was about 100 people that came by us and a few that we could have touched. Over all I got skunked but as you can see nice butts Dave. DFG met us at the ramp asking lots of questions.

Very nice hali's for the harbor (or anywhere for that matter)!-way to hang in there. Makes me think twice about making the long paddle north or south just to usually get skunked..
