What do you think

Does this hot water extend the summer fishing season well into fall?

I was in Santa Monica Bay this weekend and surface temp was 79 and as high as 82 degrees in some places.

They are getting a lot of action that's for sure.

For now I am happy being my own captain... going for a bluefin would be sick though.

I think so

From a couple of years ago when we had the El Nino, the bite was on as long as the water temp was over 70.

Yea hope it stays for a bit longer, but one good storm and it could bring up
some cool water from the deep overnight.

A little cooling wouldn't hurt. Bait died prematurely with the hot surface temp

According to Passy Pete the Lobster, we will have six more weeks of summer.
I think we're good http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...ks-summer.html

Bay water temps aren't really an indication of anything. If you look at SST maps of the socal bight, this water isn't warm. We have had minimal warm water exotics (as in Marlin, Wahoo, Yellowfin) in so cal waters this year. Bluefin fishing in September is a sign of cooler water.

Also, IMO, inshore fishing is the worst during summer. Bring on the upwelling and big waves at the launch!!!!
