Kayak fish of the two weeks: July 9th-23rd 2022
Last Wednesday out of Boca Raton was supposed to be a nice day, but it was sporty. I had one good hit off the inlet in 270ft of water on the downrigger bait 125ft down. The Avet LX reel was screaming. The reel's 300yds of 40lb braid were peeled off in the first few minutes. I fired up the Suzuki and chased the fish as it continued to take line out from the 30lb braid backing. It got my adrenaline pumping, with some hope that maybe this time it won't be a big shark. While chasing the fish down as it headed out deeper, it managed to pull out close to 1000yds. I gained line on it only briefly a couple of times over 20 minutes before the 40lb leader failed at the knot After that, I told myself it had to have been a shark.
Later in the day, Mr. Shark ate the Little Tunny off my jig and got himself hooked in the process. Hears to the men in the grey suits that occasionally give us some exercise.... |
