4/17 I love when they pull drag

Disclaimer: yeah, I know, its NOT a WSB and NOT a yellowtail. But hey, I'm fishin'...

On to the report...

Had some of my wife's family visiting from the Philippines. Being the hospitable type, I told the wife, we "must make them feel at home" and provide some quality fish for dinner.

She got the hint.

Put out the bat signal, and Ron (hammr) was able to answer the call.

The AM was a drastic change from yesterday's highs of 90+. Today early, the wind was blowing and the temps were in the 60s. Brrrr....

By the time we were on the water around 8:30ish, the wind was a manageable 6-7 kts and the swells, gentle rollers at about 3 - 4 feet.

I originally wanted to try for the lings on some spots further out, but we opted to try closer in just in case the winds picked up. Good call.

2nd drop and within seconds of hitting the bottom, my rod doubles over. No hook setting necessary on my part, the guy on the other end did it for me.

Sucker was pulling drag on my 20# outfit and gave me a fight all the way up the 30+ fathoms.

BAM... 5 lb 2.5 oz red vermillion.

Easily the biggest of the day, but the day was far from done.

It was a consistent bite on 1+ lb grade fish. Perfect for a fish fry.

My one and only chucklehead today. Still very respectable.

Landed a few boccacio, starries and quite a few red vermillion.

Helped Ron top of his stringer with some decent grade of fish.

Here's my tally for the day.

All in all, a nice day to be on the water. This was one of the better all around grade of fish kind of days.

Best part, we grilled some up and made some soup out of the others.

The out of towners said it was some of the best fish they'd ever had. Pretty high praise for folks who eat fish several times a week.
I think I just earned another hall pass for next week.

If that was LJ the water looked way better than it did on Sunday.

LA county, far far away from LJ.

Thanks. Believe me, if I was a lot closer to La Jolla, then I'd be working that area over like a hot piece of ass....

Its just too far to make the trek at a moments notice. When my calendar lightens up (work is brutal), I'll be slow trolling for those "drag pullers".
