Finally Got to the Bay
Good Evening All,
Fishinmike and I finally got out to the SD Bay this morning. Good morning to launch from Shelter Island Yacht Basin. On the beach at 0615 to set up. Temperature was about 72 degrees with marine layer. Met Joel a fellow Kayaker. He had nice new inflatable set up. Water was comfortable, light breeze and water was calm. Launched and trolled out to the lower range marker and was greeted with two tiny Macks. At the lower ranger marker my motor oil green grubs were on fire. Caught several here of all sizes with the biggest being 13 inches. Tide was coming in and since I made sure the skunk was off me I went out deeper and let the tide/current push me north where Fishinmike already was. Banged it here too. Lucky good day. Spotties and sandies. Hitting 4 inch pink plastic and green plastic. Caught a 16 inch sandie with a fat belly just off the Shelter Island pier. We headed over to NASNI to try our luck there and both caught some Spotties. Tried the bait barge and caught a couple Macks for my catfish friends and back to the lower range marker. Overall great day, good weather and good fishing partner. Would suggest fishing the bottom and letting your lure drag the eel grass. Watch the sandies because I was surprised by how hard they hit and ran today. Was a good day in which I happened to pick the right lures. Final count: Fishinmike: 15 spotties and 2 sandies Bubbacee7: 18 spotties, 5 sandies, and 4 Macks. |
