Recent Shark Encounters

Recently a buddy of mine was coming back in when he spotted some commotion on the surface. He pedaled over to check it out and found a huge Tiger shark all lit up with a big turtle in its jaws. The shark looked like it was trying to crack the shell, and the turtle was trying to bite back at the shark.

I have yet to ever see a Tiger Shark off the Kayak, but last time out I had a Hammerhead circling my kayak, boiled on my live bait and took out half a spool of the line before breaking off. At the time, I was fighting a Blackfin on another rod, and later while I was bleeding it, the same shark? came back to circle my kayak some more. The picture is a still from GoPro video.

Good thing Hammerheads....

Don't have a mouth to match there aggression,
They don't like to back off till they get what they want.
Especially when there's a scent trail wild animal.

Love hammerheads as long as I can remember. That said, I don't necessarily want one circling my kayak lol

That’s a scallop you have pictured. Just wait until a greater hammer finds you and wants whatever you have.

Thankfully did not want what I had. A very humbling experience having a Greater Hammerhead swim up out of the depths to check me out. The fact that it had a 3ft dorsal and was longer than my kayak was notable, but what really impressed me was the girth. That sucker was bigger around than me and my kayak. It easily could have seriously messed me up, but instead was cautious and stayed just out of poking range.

Truth, rather be circled by HH vs GW any day.
