The bay usually is a good bet for BSB and Sandies, but some legal size butts have been caught. Lots of lizard fish and Macks. (This is what I have gleened from lurking, my own experiences recently have produced only bass, lizzards, and short butts). The shoals at West end of Shelter Island are good for bass, the bridge flats good for bass and butts. I've never seen much in the way of other bottom species.
