Mine died about a month ago as well.
Did a quick fix job in the garage which lasted about a month. I'll be heading to the store to buy another switch today. They're $12, and 2 minutes to swap out. If I have to do that every year, or even every 6 months, I'm OK with that. To have it wired directly and using the battery terminals as the on/off is doable, but having a switch for $12 is the best option for me. I believe that the newest version from Hobie does have that red plastic cover so that will provide a bit of a better guard compared to the one I'm removing which has nothing but the bare wires pretty much exposed. Design flaw? Not sure, but I don't think an on/off switch should be a consumable item on a live well.
