About the question about the three rock fish that you can't keep, I wouldn't worry about it. The rockfish that you can't keep in califorrnia are the yellow eye, cow cod and one other. They are really rare to catch and the cow cod are usually deeper like 300 plus feet. I've only seen them caught out on boats and a couple by Santa Rosa island and in Mexico. The yellow eye and the other one are usually only caught up north like by Monterey bay and above. There might be more that I don't know of but they would be extremely rare from a kayak.
