They're there and most times you won't see them. I have hooked up quite a few times, most times it was easy to tell because they broke off early and left my fluoro leader kind of shredded on the end. Been taken for an over 1/2 mile sleigh ride by a large Thresher and finally he broke my 65lb braid while jumping and slaming his tail on it. Had a 5 1/2 foot mako 2 feet next to me on my line. Took some pictures before he broke the leader with his very gnarly teeth. Just check out my avatar. I always pay a lot of attention around me when landing or bleeding my yellow tail. I look out for seals but a shark could be a lot more trouble, so stay alert. If sharks scare you, stick to lake bass fishing. If they don't, then someday you'll enjoy the experience.
