I recall having a similar problem with the promar lights, I could be wrong but I believe it was corrosion inside the battery housing on the contacts that was the issue. I haven't had that issue with the Trident lights but much like all waterproof products you may still get corrosion within the housing. I believe this will be my 3rd or 4th season with the Trident lights and so far I'm pretty happy with them.

They are made of hard plastic material that almost looks like glass, I keep them in a tube that has a foam insert
