To "v" is to cut down into the crack at an angle on both sides of the crack as to make a V, yes you are making a larger (but not much) area as to allow the bond to penatrate, check with someone in the know though,
I have plastic welded cracks around handles and such, I guess it depends on the location of the crack and how large of an area I know Cobras are pretty thin in some spots...
