With all the recent storms fronts & rain, C.W.C. headed over to Catalina for a few days to clear the ol’ melon before Fred Hall LBC. Catalina Express kindly took us over san gratis for my B-Day. Descanso Beach Ocean Sports hooked us up with their tandem rental kayak again. No A.I’s on the premises.. Although, I am currently in the works to get a few good ones/small fleet over on the island just for fishin’..I.E.: PA & Outbacks..Peddle time! Amazing conditions were to be had on this long awaited & pre-planned fishing weekend getaway… Sometimes ya just gotta take whats thrown your way, & a game of Checkers is just what the good Dr. ordered..Quality pigs could be had down the lanes all day. Here are a few from the days festivities.

No turning back..Full steam..

Almost to the end of a days session, on one of the ‘last’ casts, I hook up on a small but angry Calico that pops my reel right out of its seat. I had to leader that Calico and about forty extra yards before his release.. I usually pack extremely light & once again brought almost no tackle out to the Island. I was fishing the exact same swimbait the entire trip and never had to change baits. One of the many reasons why i love ElaZtech, & especially those segmented PaddlerZ..RhaaaaAA!!!...

Ready to rip lips..

Headed to the “Trap”..

Fresh fish & fresh Lost Coast..

Heres my actual birthday fish. A couple beautiful small Checkers before our session even began!?..
(Testing the reel next to the Tuna Club.)

Free private beachside gourmet prepared meals after you release your dinner..

Similar to the problem down @ the Shores, the Island has an amazing Falconer (R.P.) who’s brilliantly trained raptor showed of kindly for my gopro..I tried to capture this exact shot while down in the Keys a couple months ago with a wild Osprey I got lucky enough to be only a few feet away while she was eating her Flounder lunch near the mangroves, but once back at the lodge and reviewed the footage, I soon realized my cameras recording features weren’t on ‘one touch button’ mode, & I really learned the hard way on that one..

After releasing every single fish we nabbed, I survived and endured the island hardships mainly on these superior Mexican Shrimp Cocktails..
Back again @ waterhole of choice: Lobster Trap..
(I think I had ten?!)

One of the Locals..

I’ve been waiting a longgggggg time for the Lexa 400 reel clamp, and its finally here! Lexa 400 HS Jigstick clamp. Thanks to Tiburon Engineering available @ Kens Custom & has the best pr fyi..

Some really cool fish inspired artwork from local artists over @ Afishiando Charters Shop. (various unknown artists.)

Good place to weather that next storm..WSB & Flatscreen

Departing B-day gift from some of the resident locals..

Had a great time at Fred Hall seeing everyone again. We were running some really good promotions and they should be the same for Del Mar. Apparently Socal has starting to realize the ElaZtech advantages and you won’t have to order the best swimbaits via online much longer..

Awesome video and stills. Those where some nice fat local bass. Saw the teeth up close in the video so yeah the gloves don't cover the finger tips. The video shows the weather a lot nicer than the weather forecast. I can't wait to go to Catalina again. Thanks for sharing Capt. Wade

Those Catalina Calicos sure have some pretty colors.
A whole weekend on one swimbait, with teeth like that! Those Zmans are tough as nails.
Nice video. Looks like a perfect way to spend a birthday weekend.
