1. PFD reachable and readily accessible in case you flip.
2. Gears thoughts should be multi-useful to keep your gears as light as possible. (tackle whore you know what I mean)
3. bungees bungees, you'll flip one day or another and its good to strap your gear if not, consider it a donation to the ocean.
4. Practice and spend time on the water, get familiar with your kayak, hop on or off the kayak.

I was planing on going to oex on sunday to buy a paddle. i have plenty of tackle.
when you fish los Alamitos where do you launch?

Beach right next to United States Sailing center

Unload on harbor side of the street then move the car across the street where it is legal to park.

I would say that besides the PDF a good cooler that doesn't take up too much deck space but hold a lot of beer, is the other important life preserver. Just saying!

Whatever you do dont buy a $2000 motor for a $800 dollar kayak....also don't buy a $2000 motor for a kayak that has an $800 dollar sail on it....
