So you wanna catch halibut huh?
Thing about halibut fishing is that it's very boring but rewarding....I suggest you fish the harbors and bay's at first. Try to refine your rigs and techniques, really pay attention to details, where when what time, structure etc...use live bait, buy or make your own, I suggest you make your own. If you can be proficient at making your own bait regularly...it will definitely make you a better fisherman overall.

Regardless of what ANYONE says use traps rigs Make you own bait Drop bait in water Lean the backrest on the vantage seat to a comfy position Sleep and wait for the halibut to bite ">

It can be tough to make it in the bay's sometimes but it also can be really easy. Definitely easier having a decent fish finder and the ability to interpret what bait looks like on the screen helps. Having the right sabiki is really important as well, for example if there is only little smelt around you don't want to use a sabiki with giant hooks....don't over look using lizard fish as bait, those can be easy to catch sometimes and at times will work GREAT!

There is no one sure fire bait to use everytime, just like any other fish out there you will see that at times they do show a preference for one over the other. The best bait is gonna be what you have on hand at the time and if you have a variety of baits don't be afraid to experiment. Once you find out what they prefer, use that to your advantage.
