Yes this fish definitely has to be from the grunt family it made the grunt noise like the French Grunts I catch when I am in Florida.

Wait until you get OLD. BTW Baja time for YOU is almost here. Remember your fly rod and the SMALL metal lures with wire. SIERRA TIME. Remind Buddha for recipes for sierra. From the yak if you did not get cut off it should have been 10 for 10. It was 4 for 8 from the beach without wire.

That striped fish is a salema. They're in the grunt family like sargo. Salema are one of those fish that you see plenty of diving but don't catch often. I've had a couple guys tell me they are good bait for big calico bass. I've tried em a couple times with no success tho. Its always interesting to see some thing new in the local waters. Mike

Just out of curiosity ... what was your depth? My buddies and I hopped on the NSF today and they headed up in front of dog beach. Found a few schools on the bottom and got them to bite the yoyo. Not to deep either, I think like 120-160.
