Market squid, Loligo opalescence, usually come to the coast in huge numbers to spawn in winter or early spring.. They generally don't trickle in in small numbers. Getting dope or being out and seeing birds, dogs, or boats on the squid bed area off LJ will let you know. The candy catchers, squid sibikis, are the way to go. Squid usually appear green rather than red like bait fish on color FF's in my experience. Lower the squid jig down n slowly wind up. Squid don't really "hit", the rig just feels a bit heavier. And because the points aren't barbed you don't want to bounce a squid jig up n down like sibiki or the squid usually just slide off. Mike
