Catalina Crossing on Kayak

Hi guys,
3 NorCal guys plan to go across Catalina on our Hobie kayaks(attached is mine)
We plan to spend 5 days total on this trip.
Lobster, YT, WSB, Sheephead,Calico are what on the list to catch. :hsughr:
Start: Around Long Beach(any beach as long as there are multi-day parking allowed) - Two Harbors

To make this trip as smooth as possible, I need your help filling in the gap.

1. What are my parking options at the mainland ?
I looked up "Cabrillo Beach Boat Launch Ramp". It's allowed to park overnight if car has trailer attached. We cannot park here overnight obviously. We could change our launch point if you know somewhere easy to park.

You can unload your stuff at the launch ramp or sand then move your vehicle to the street.

Streets are 72hr parking depending on enforcement. Might be a risk.

Cabrillo beach is your best bet to launch but I cant help w the longterm parking. Maybe the cruise terminal? I take it youre not going this summer since lobster is closed.

Lobster season is from October to March only. Actual start, end days on the F&W website. Other requirements are also listed there.

Sheephead from boat, kayak has season too. Not from shore or pier.

Best wishes, and post a report.

We are well aware of lobster season, MPA and what not with DFG rules.
That's why I am here if anyone might know any secret parking spot, or somewhere we can park for 5 days. Prefer to pay rather than risking it and have it towed. I'd love to see car when we get back though.

Unload stuff at launch then park in residential neighborhood? Have a guy watch the gear while youre gone and uber back?

There's a pay lot in Newport where the Catalina Flyer departs from where you can pay to park as long-term as you like. Not sure how a trailer would work? Maybe you'd need to park the trailer in another spot and pay for that one as well.

BTW, when NorCal guys mention lobster in the middle of the closed season the topic is going to come up.

The Catalina Express out of Long Beach has a parking garage, I believe $15/day. Should be a quick Uber/Lyft ride from there back to the beach. Check with them to see if they offer public parking.

I would appreciate it if you can write a report.
I just booked a campsite in Parsons Landing in October, if you want to do it again you are welcome to join.
Lobsters are what we plan to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner for those days.
