Flat falls are weird for me.

You can either make them drop fast like dead weight, or you can make them flutter down. Fluttering down takes much longer than the straight drop.

To get it to flutter it seems like you gotta give the lure a lot more free slack in the line so it can do its job.

I'm still learning to fish the flat fall, so I'm open to more info!

I can tell it's not just falling flat but instead rocking back and forth like a pendulum/swing because the reel speeds up during the fast part of the swing and almost stops at the peaks at the end of each swing.

No skill on my part - it's just free spooling on my Lexa 300.
