Idiot me, really. I have heard that advice before and even got it again from a couple dudes on the beach when I launched. I saw pots, thought about it and kept paddling with the mindset the deeper the better. Not the case!

Yea without a fish finder it can be difficult to find fish drifting around in deep water. I haven’t had a finder for awhile now. The lobster pots really help as well as just fishing the kelp line. When the kelp is dense enough I like to grab a handful and put it under my leg to anchor myself down while I fish for bass or rockfish.

Good to hear your report. Always test the ff the night before, and if it is not working, I don't go.
